HMRC SEISS ‘non-filers’ letter
From the first week of November, HMRC are writing to people who have claimed the first, second and / or third Self Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) grants but who have either not yet filed their self assessment tax return for 2019/20 or who have file the return but have not completed the self employment or partnership pages. HMRC are asking them to file their return or complete those pages within 30 days so they can check that there were eligible for the SEISS grant(s) they claimed. If a claimant was not trading in the 2019/20 tax year they will need to repay the grant(s) they received, and the letter explains how they should do this. The letter is not being copied to agents but suggests that recipients show the letter to their tax adviser if they have one.
