Unique Taxpayer References (UTRs) and the HMRC app
HMRC have shared the following news with us about a new feature on the HMRC app which allows individuals to copy and paste their UTR from the app.
HMRC app improvements – Unique Taxpayer Reference
"We’ve made further improvements to the HMRC app by adding a new function that allows customers to copy and paste their Self-Assessment Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR). Customers can easily share their UTR with their tax agent, and with the copy and paste function they can be sure it’s the correct UTR.
"Every year HMRC receives thousands of calls from customers who’ve lost or forgotten their UTR. Customers can get it instantly on the HMRC app. It means they don’t have to call us, saving them time and money, and they won’t have to wait 10 to 15 days for their UTR to arrive in the post.
"We’ve published a YouTube video showing just how easy it is to find your UTR on the app.
"Additional features added to the app in February this year also allow customers to pay their Self-Assessment tax bill using the app. The improved app functionality will be promoted ahead of the Self-Assessment tax return deadline on 31 January 2023. "
