ATT announces 2023-24 presidential team
The Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) has announced its team of Officers for 2023-24. Current Deputy President Simon Groom will become President, with Senga Prior the Deputy President and Graham Batty Vice-President.
The appointments were formally approved by the ATT’s Council earlier this year and the three will take up their new roles on Thursday 13 July at the Association’s Annual General Meeting.
Simon Groom, a part time senior tutor at LexisNexis, qualified as a chartered accountant in 1987 and as a chartered tax adviser in 1991. He became a member of the ATT in 2003 and joined the ATT Council in 2018. He also sits on the Association’s Finance Steering Group and Nominations Committee.
Senga Prior, the current Vice-President, will advance to Deputy President. Senga works as a senior tax manager for Johnston Carmichael, specialising in personal tax. She became a member of the Association in 2002 and a Fellow in 2017, when she also joined the Council. She chairs the ATT’s Technical Steering Group and represents the Association at the Scottish Devolved Taxes Collaborative, as well as attending quarterly meetings between ATT, CIOT, ICAS and the Scottish Government. Senga is also the ATT representative on HMRC’s Issues Overview Group.
Graham Batty, a retired accountant who previously served as ATT’s President in 2017-18, will be the Association’s new Vice-President. He became a member of the ATT in 2005 and joined the Council in 2012. He chairs the Examination Steering Group and serves on the Audit and Risk Committee. He previously worked as an associate director at RSM, where he specialised in the taxation of charities and other not for profit bodies.
Simon Groom said:
“I am honoured and excited to be ATT President for the year ahead. Having been on Council for five years, and a member for 20, I know how important the work we do to help improve the tax system is and I look forward to continuing this with the ATT Officers and Council in 2023-24.
“It will be a privilege to succeed David Bradshaw, who has done a fantastic job over the last year as President and leaves the ATT in great shape. I hope to continue the progress he has made and invite all members to share their views on what we should be saying and doing. The ATT is a great ship to captain, but it is our members that put the wind in our sails.”
