The Pensions Regulator (TPR) has announced that they are resuming spot checks on employers suspected of failing to meet their workplace pensions duties.
Routine compliance drives were paused by TPR during the pandemic, with focus instead shifting to urgent, ad-hoc inspections of employers suspected of serious breaches. However, larger scale onsite inspections will now resume in a number of UK regions in the coming months, including Greater Manchester, Nottingham, Greater London and Belfast.
Employers will usually be notified about an inspection two weeks in advance. Those being visited include organisations that TPR suspect may be non-compliant, or are at risk of becoming so in the future.
These spot checks are intended to detect and confirm non-compliance, but will also allow TPR to gather insight into employer behaviour, including identifying common errors. In most cases, TPR inspectors will work on site with employers found to be non-compliant to help get them back on track.
